Keep In Step

In our achievement-oriented culture, we often fall into the trap of comparing our spiritual lives with others. We see fellow believers who appear to have it all together while we struggle with our messy faith journey. This comparison isn't just frustrating—it's exhausting, turning faith into a race we think we're losing instead of a relationship we're nurturing. In Galatians 5, Paul offers a different perspective: 'Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.' He doesn't say sprint or show off; he says walk. The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—grows slowly, like real fruit. It cannot be rushed, forced, or faked. This transformation happens best in community as we serve one another in love. When we compare ourselves to others, we forget that God works in us at different paces, in different seasons, and for different purposes. The freedom Christ offers isn't about proving ourselves but about staying rooted in Him who has already claimed us, walking step by step at a pace that builds love instead of pressure, community instead of competition.
